Independent Living Communities offer hospitality services that are designed to take some of the arduous, physically challenging tasks off of the residents’ “to do” lists. Housekeeping, maintenance, landscaping, and snow removal services are offered to maintain a safe and clean environment. Additionally, Independent Living Communities usually offer a variety of dining and transportation options as well as socially engaging activities. The value of Independent Living is in its safety and social interactions.
Residents of Independent Living Communities should be independent in the management of most of their affairs, including care needs. Independent Living communities are not regulated. They do not have on-site clinical staff, but residents can utilize the services of a home healthcare organization to manage short-term clinical needs. Generally, all utilities are included but some communities charge a fee for Cable TV, phone, and secured internet, or the resident may have to arrange for hook up of these services.
